Case Study – School Refurbishment in Kent

In a previous article we discussed the refurbishment of various workplaces including carrying out refurbishment work in schools. In this article we will be discussing the refurbishment of two Kent schools which have kept us busy for the last couple of months.

As with all refurbishment projects it is essential that works are carried out on time and to budget. With school budget cuts this is now even more important. When undertaking any school refurbishment we work closely with the school and ensure that timely communication is foremost in our minds to ensure that school refurbishment projects are delivered successfully and with little or no disruption.

School One

The first school in our case study asked us if we could make and supply and install DDA compliant ramps to enable access for disabled pupils. The school also asked us if we could come up with some ideas on how best to hide some gymnasium equipment that was stored in the main hall. To this end we designed, made and installed custom folding doors which made the hall look much neater and in turn was safer for the pupils. Work on this project was scheduled over the half term so to ensure minimal disruption to the school schedule. The project was delivered within timelines and to budget.

School Two

Our second case study school asked us to help reduce noise levels in their main hall. Their suspended ceiling was past its best and was missing tiles. Overall the hall was dark and dingy. We spent some time talking to the school about their options and a decision was made to install a new suspended ceiling which would be fully insulated to buffer sound. The acoustic performance of suspended ceilings has improved dramatically over the years, with enhanced sound absorption and attenuation. The panels help deaden sounds and keep adjacent rooms quieter. The result was a lovely new ceiling with improved lighting and great acoustics. The result: happy teacher’s and happy pupils. The refurbishment work was again carried out during half term, on time, and within budget.
