JBH Refurbishments’ Challenges Primary School Pupils to Design the Best Classroom Ever in Regional Competition
JBH Refurbishments provides school fit out services throughout the South East and is celebrating its 15th anniversary. To mark the occassion, the company is challenging primary school pupils in the South East to ‘Design the Best Classroom Ever’. The regional competition is intended to enthuse young people to explore construction careers later in life.
It’s Fun and Educational
“’Design the Best Classroom Ever’ is fun, creative and educational competition for primary school pupils aged 4 to 11 years. The two successful applicants from key stage one and two will win £250 for their class to spend on essential classroom supplies,” explains Babs Hubbard, Director of JBH Refurbishments.
“The idea behind the competition is to create a buzz among young people for designing and building, starting with their classroom. They will need to put both their methodical and creative skills to the test to create a space that suits their interests and addresses the practical needs of a class.
“We hope that the thought process could inspire the next generation of architects, engineers, builders, interior designers, carpenters and other skilled trades.
Why Should We Educate Young People about Construction Now?
It has been widely publicised that there is a distinct lack of skilled labour in this country, which we can only assume will become more of an issue in the future. More needs to be done now to promote construction jobs to young people and in particular encourage more females to the industry. By running this competition we hope to spark an interest in the wide variety of construction careers amoung young people.
What is Involved?
Schools can download the information pack, which include templates, and a power point presentation below. When designing their ideal classroom, pupils will be asked to consider some of the following:
- The layout
- Practical aspects, such as lighting
- Quirky design features
Entries will be split into two categories – key stage one with Early Years and key stage two.
The judging panel will carefully select a winner from each category, who will scoop the prize of £250 to spend on classroom supplies for their specific class. The money will be spent on essential learning equipment, and it will be up to the winning pupil and their teacher to decide on how best to spend the prize money.
Preparing to help the JBH Refurbishments team judge the competition entries is Iain McIlwee, the CEO of FIS, which is the industry voice of the Finishes and Interior Sector.
The Competition Marks a Special Birthday
The competition marks the celebration of JBH Refurbishments’ 15th anniversary. We have designed and refurbished schools and commercial properties for many years and what better way to celebrate this milestone than with those that enjoy the classrooms we create.
