JBH Refurbishments completed the toilet refurbishment for Fresh Plus, a large fruit and veg distribution company in Paddock Wood, Kent.
Fresh Plus provides distribution services for the fruit and veg industry, ensuring excellent and prompt transportation from the field to the store. As a significant employer in Kent, Fresh Plus boasts a large workforce, which had taken its toll on their washroom facilities. The management team decided it was time to upgrade the male and female washrooms with a full toilet refurbishment.
The Fresh Plus team were cautious is choosing a suitable refurbishment company. Previously, they had a different washroom refurbished by another fit out contractor, but the quality of products and the overall finish were sub-standard. They needed a refurbishment contractor that was dedicated to completing the project to a high standard.
Having met our friendly team, received a competitive quotation, read our many testimonials and seen pictures of our previous work, Fresh Plus selected JBH Refurbishments as the fit out contractor for the job.
JBH Refurbishments carried out a thorough site survey of the washrooms and established the work that needed to be undertaken.
The existing washrooms had tiled floors, dated cubicles and sanitaryware, plus stained ceiling tiles with fluorescent lighting.
From initial inspection, it was clear the washrooms at Fresh Plus needed a full strip out and fit out.
Following the full strip out of the toilets, which involved removing blown wall and floor tiles, it was apparent that the walls needed repairing. The JBH team plastered the walls, which would provide a smooth and level surface on which to lay full height hygienic cladding to replace the old-fashioned tiles.
The floor was fully latexed to ensure that the floor was level, ready for a cap and cove floor system. Having a level floor prevents dips in the vinyl when it is laid, which can often lead to the accumulation of water from cleaning and general washroom spillages. Over time, culminations of water can stain the vinyl, so its important that the floor is level before laying and finishing materials.
Being a business with a large workforce the hygienic properties of the toilet refurbishment were a key consideration.
Upon designing the toilet refurbishment, JBH factored in certain materials, products and finishes to ensure hygiene was fully optimised.
Floating toilets offer fewer spaces for bacteria and dirt to build up. To support the floating toilets, the JBH team built a framework at the back of the toilet. This too provided a casing for the cistern. The framework was neatly disguised behind the wall and finished with a chrome wall mounted button flush and panel.
All the walls were fitted with full height Altro White Rock hygienic cladding, including behind the toilets and urinals. When installed by an approved installation expert, this type of wall finish is ideal for a toilet refurbishment with a high footfall. It is is hard-wearing, water resistant and easy to keep clean, as it is a smooth and impenetrable surface.
The floor was finished with a cap and cove floor system, which provides a curved incline up to the wall. Meaning dirt cannot accumulate in the corners. This was finished with a hard-wearing vinyl.
The sinks were fitted with sensor taps for optimum hygiene when washing your hands. Sensor taps are also a good option over push taps, as they can reduce unnecessary water wastage. To support the sensor tap installation, we factored in the electrical supply and fuse box within the electrical drawings.
The old suspended ceiling was replaced with a crisp white suspended ceiling with 120 x 600mm Stain Spar tiles. These ceiling tiles have a plastic face, so no moisture can be absorbed, thus preventing water stain in the future.
To complete the ultra-modern ceiling, we installed LED light panels. These sit flush within the ceiling, again reducing any areas for dirt and bacteria to build up.
The colours of the toilet cubicles were determined by the previous toilet refurbishment that Fresh Plus had completed by the other contractor.
The quality of the cubicles and vanity units in the new toilet refurbishment however were uprated by comparison. Both the ladies and men’s washrooms were fitted out with contemporary vanity units and upstands to accommodate the sinks and sensor taps.
The colour coordinated toilet cubicles brought accents of green to this modern and bright toilet refurbishment.
To complete the toilet refurbishment, JBH fitted new radiators and refitted the previously used Dyson hand dryer. We reinstated the fire alarm and ventilation system with new grilles. Finally, our carpenters hung new entrance doors for this smart new toilet refurbishment.
The ladies and men’s toilet refurbishments were completed in just five weeks. That includes the full strip out of both rooms, latex on the floor and fit out.
The result is two smart and hygienic washrooms that will last the test of time for this high flying Kent fruit and veg distributor.
